Greco-Roman Records & Lone

A deep dive into how record labels work from both a label owner and artist. Alex will be joined by Nottingham superstar producer Lone (who also runs his own indie label Magic Wire) to discuss all things record labels and electronic music. This is one that any electronic music producer would not want to miss.

About

Alexander Waldron

Alexander Waldron has over two decades of music industry experience spent between London and Berlin, starting in a record store, working his way up from intern to Head of Marketing at Island Records, running !K7 Records and starting the Berlin edition of Boiler Room. In 2007 he started Greco-Roman with two friends Dom Mentsh and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, throwing speakeasy parties and releasing breakthrough records by the likes of Disclosure, Tirzah, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Lone. Managing artists like Roosevelt and Pinty along the way, the company has evolved into Olympian Music Co – a record label group, artist management company and consultancy inspired by the godly Greek mountain and the infamous athletic tournament.

Lone

Born Matt Cutler and raised in Nottingham, Lone has emerged as a standout artist over the last decade. His most recent album ‘Always Inside Your Head’ on Greco-Roman saw him continuing to explore his love of hip-hop, drum & bass and techno but temper the electronic rhythms with the introspection and heady ethereality of shoegaze – yet ‘Always Inside Your Head’ never quite loses the essence of what it is, an album of music to dance to.Lone made his name with incredibly warm and nostalgic interpretations of many various strands of UK electronica and has distinctly evolved with each new release. Yet whether making house, breakbeat or jungle, his music always remains identifiable thanks to its blurry sense of rave nostalgia and bright melodic colours. As well as running his own Magicwire label — home to early albums like Emerald Fantasy Tracks he has also released on Werk Discs, Dekmantel, K7! and R&S.
