Lighting Designers – David & Dominic

Lighting designers for Rhianna, Blink 182, Pharrell, Lady Gaga will chew the fat over what it's like designing and programming lighting for some of the biggest tours in the world.

David Wolstenholme

David is a freelance lighting director from Kent, who graduated with a theatre arts degree from Mountview Academy before going to work in the moving light department at Production Resource Group’s London facility.

During his career, David has worked on large-scale touring musical theatre and ice shows, along with periods at the National Theatre of Great Britain and Cirque Du Soleil.

More recently David has toured extensively internationally with pop and rock artists in stadiums and arenas throughout the world for artists such as ELO, Take That and Elton John.

David is an accomplished lighting programmer/operator. He regularly works with lighting designer Paul Smith (The Illusionists, Circus 1903, Luís de Matos – Impossível) and production designer Dominic Smith (Pharrell Williams, N.E.R.D, Blink 182, Rhianna) in both a programming and associate design role, as well as looking after large-scale pop tours for Tim Routledge (Jeff Lynne’s ELO) and Al Gurdon (Take That Greatest Hits tour).

In addition to show operation, David specialises in lighting and show data integration and control systems, including lighting and video tracking systems, for events of all sizes.

His skills are hugely in-demand and have led to him designing and managing the systems at many high-profile live events such as Leeds and V festival and leading large scale systems integration on national and international live and live-to-broadcast events such as Apple Music Festival London, U2 at the MTV awards in Trafalgar Square and The XXI Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies in Australia.

Dominic Smith

Dominic Smith is an award-winning lighting and production designer who has been using light tell stories and influence emotions for more than 20 years.

His career has seen him work with some of the world’s most successful artists, creating visually spectacular, emotive, concert experiences for audiences all over the world.

Dominic sees light as a language and is continuously investigating and experimenting with its use to influence emotion, divert or direct attention, and control a narrative.

His recent clients include Billie Eillish, Pharrell Williams, Blink 182, Thom Yorke, Lady A and Jason Aldean.
