Pauline Martyn

An introduction into Narrative Design in video game development, including the importance of diversity and representation in games.


Pauline is a narrative designer currently working at Ubisoft Reflections.

She has previously worked on self-published titles such as Project Madison; a narrative and system-driven office simulation set in 1960s Madison Avenue.

In her work, Pauline strives to create the best possible narrative experience for the player by harmonising story and gameplay. Her areas of focus are narrative features design, cinematics and implementation.

Prior to her career as a narrative designer, Pauline worked in the gaming industry as a project manager (SIEE, Activision). She also completed a BA (Hons) in Game Design at the University of the Arts London, writing a Thesis on Ry? ga Gotoku’s Japaneseness in Local and Global Contexts.

She loves games, film, design, Japanese culture…and cats.
