Formed in 2007, Warlord Games are designers, manufacturers and distributors of finely detailed historical and science fiction miniatures in plastic, metal and resin.
Since then they’ve released multiple core rule sets to cover everything from the Ancients, the Horse & Musket era, the Black Powder era, right through World War Two and beyond into the future! They have also made a number of excellent licenced games including their brilliant Dr Who Miniatures games and a set of games from the pages of the very popular 2000AD Comic.
They’ve developed an extensive range for each system – with the core units available as plastic miniatures, reinforcements in metals, and larger units produced in resin. The vast majority of the process (from game and miniature design, sculpture, mould making, production, and packing) are performed in-house, at their HQ deep in the heart of wargaming’s spiritual home, Nottingham.
This year’s industry week event is proud to welcome two of the key games designers from Warlord Games Alessio Cavatore and Andy Chambers to talk about the process of designing successful games and share their knowledge with our students. Both designers worked initially at Games Workshop on flagship games Warhammer, Warhammer 40K and Lord of the Rings alongside specialist games like Necromunda and Space Hulk.
On leaving they have both established themselves as independent games designers, Alessio launching River Horse Games and having huge success with the games based on Jim Henson’s Labyrinth and Dark Crystal films. Andy has worked as a designer on the excellent Starship Troopers game, Dust Warfare, Dropfleet Commander and many others. Their work for Warlord includes the core Bolt Action Games ruleset developed by Alessio and the fantastic Blood Red Skies game developed by Andy. For anyone interested in tabletop/miniature gaming this session is a must see!
