Chris Wetton is a filmmaker whose career spans more than three decades of independent production. His love of film began early, after being taken to the cinema as a child and becoming captivated by the power of moving images. That fascination deepened in the late 1980s when he began experimenting with one of the early consumer video cameras, discovering a hands-on connection to storytelling that would define his career.
Encouraged by a teacher who recognised his creative instinct, Chris went on to win the National Schools Video Awards in 1989, where he met Sir Richard Attenborough — a moment that confirmed his decision to pursue filmmaking professionally.
Soon after, he co-founded the production company BESQ with long-time collaborator Tyrone Braithwaite. For over 35 years, the pair have navigated independent film production together, learning through experience and building projects driven by persistence and passion.
Chris is co-writer and editor of the independent feature Surrender To It, a project three years in the making. On a micro-budget production, roles overlap, and Chris took on multiple responsibilities across the film, including producing duties, cinematography, editing, visual effects and sound. His work on the film reflects a practical, hands-on approach to filmmaking where storytelling comes first and every stage of production matters.
At his core, Chris describes himself simply as a filmmaker — someone focused on telling stories through moving images, whatever role that requires.
