Kev Foakes

Strictly Kev / DJ Food

A chance to meet a true creative mind! The London-based graphic designer is an acclaimed artist, author and electronic music artist.

About

Kevin Foakes is possibly better known as the man behind the DJ Food name for the last 20 years.

Also known as Strictly Kev, he has been involved in the DJ Food project (once a multi-producer outfit alongside Coldcut and PC) for three decades. He has also been a graphic designer in parallel – designing many of the 90s & 00s sleeves for Ninja Tune as well as their logos and merchandising under the name Openmind.

As a DJ he was part of the Solid Steel radio show for 25 years and also creates immersive light and sound environments with Pete Williams under the moniker Further. As a collector and scholar of all things psychedelic and counter-cultural he’s also been involved with the Bureau of Lost Culture podcast for several years with host, Stephen Coates.

His first book, Wheels of Light, showcased the art of analogue light show wheels from the 1970s onwards and was published in 2022 by Four Corners Books. He continues to work in music and graphic design as well as writing and researching for a number of forthcoming books.
