About

Interested in what it’s like to work in the live event industry? Wonder what touring life is like? How do you get your foot in the door and where do you start? What different jobs are out there?

Come along to our Live Event panel talk, hosted by Olive Olin, sound engineer, tour manager & course leader for Event Production. The panel will consist of industry professionals, who have worked in the industry, toured the world and worked in various roles in the industry!

This will be a 45min panel talk followed by a 15min Q&A.

Tess Minor has been in the world of touring and concert design since 2013.

Discovering the magic of lighting in British Columbia, Canada, her career of an ever unfolding adventure began to grow and she began working as a lighting technician for Christie Lites. With Christie opening up their show in Coventry in 2017, Tess took advantage of the opportunity, jumped on a plane and moved herself to England. Transitioning from technician, to lighting operator, then adding in lighting programmer, she started making moves into the world of lighting and set design.

Last year, Tess and her business partner, Mark Jennings, launched Midnight Seven. A queer and female ran creative studio that handles various elements of live events. From creative direction, styling, lighting design, and video content design. It is an ever growing and changing journey that Mark and Tess are passionate to build and develop.

Tess has worked with household names such as Jacob Collier, Olivia Dean, Steps, Beth Ditto, and Kylie Minogue, and has incredible experience within the industry.

Matt Noades is a sound engineer and musician, who founded Anvil Audio in 2016, with the aim of providing reliable sound production services for the music and events industry in London.

Matt and the team at Anvil Audio work quietly behind the scenes to ensure every project runs smoothly. The company has had the privilege of working with clients such as Soho House, Sony Music, AWAL, and The Hoxton Hotel chain, helping bring their events and productions to life. 

Jason Carter has worked in the live music and events sector for over 30 years, – producing many of the large scale events and festivals for the BBC as Event Director, delivering shows with artists such as Madonna, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Eminem and Lady Gaga to name a few.

Jason has created huge events, from BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend to BBC Radio 2 Live in London’s Hyde Park and was responsible for delivering the broadcast coverage across all BBC radio and TV, for events such as Glastonbury Festival.

Jason is also the creator of BBC Music Introducing, responsible for the early discovery of artists such as Florence and The Machine, Ed Sheeran, The 1975 and more. The platform has delivered over 14 Number 1 Top 10 UK singles, 74 Top 10 UK albums and 7 Grammy nominations.

As the Festival Director for BBC Radio 1 London 2012 Olympic concert he received widespread praise in the media, with the Guardian’s five star review describing it as ‘an Olympics precursor that can only be judged as a gold-medal production.”

Jason co-founded ‘The Podcast Show, London’ which launched in 2022. Now approaching its 4th year, the show is established as the biggest global festival for the business of podcasting, with over 10,000 visitors, and over 100 partners and exhibitors including Amazon, Spotify, BBC Sounds, iHeart, Sirius XM and Sony Music
